We are scheduled to close on Wednesday. Part of me is excited and part of me is having a nervous breakdown.
When I look at the house I see a lot of potential...and with that potential I see endless amounts of work.
Not that that is bad.
The carpet in the house?...that is bad. The carpet in the bathroom?...also bad. The weird mixture of smells that range from old person, dirt, cat pee...and perhaps a dead corpse? Those have me a wee bit antsy.
I have made endless amounts of lists.
Concocted "attack" plans.
Mostly we are going to do a lot of painting, which I think, is going to make a world of difference. And as though Home Depot too pity on my plight they have all of their paint on sale right now.
Plight too drastic of a word?
Probably.
But I am running with it.
When I boil it down it isn't so bad. What really has me worried right now are the floors. Under the carpet upstairs are hard wood floors. We are hoping they are lovely and we don't have to do anything with them.
We may not be so lucky.
We might have to refinish them. We are OK with that.
The main stumbling block right now are the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room floors. Some are covered in carpet right now, some are done in peel and stick tile.
Blake and I decided long ago that we were going to remove what was covering them and paint those floors. I have read A LOT about it and I think for us, right now, it is the way to go.
My dilemma is "how?"
Want to weigh in?
This is what I have tentatively right now.
The Kitchen:
I plan on painting the walls the same color that our kitchen is now painted.
I am pretty set on a checkerboard pattern.
In grey and white.
Similar to these floors
with this grey.
The bathroom upstairs has me stumped.
Should I do the same checkerboard floor that is going in the kitchen or should I do something different?
or this one
or this one.
I found these couple options for pattern...
I like the thought of doing an "area rug" of sorts.
Problem? This may be a little too busy for a small space.
I like the stripes in this one, although I would do them in the same grey as the kitchen floor. But perhaps...that would have a circus-ey effect.
I really like this one. Same grey color as the kitchen.
Or what about just plain white? Would it make it look crisp and clean or would it just look cheap?
Or, if solid is good...but we just need a color..
I was thinking that we could do it in the same color as our living room now.
Then the final minor decision....Our main stairs.
Should we do them like this.
Grey on top and white underneath?
In this grey color.
Or white with the same grey color...but as a runner instead?
What say you?
